Casually, and with the fixed idea for a few months of going to get some fresh air elsewhere, and especially FAR AWAY, my trip to Japan—planned since fall 2025 for next May and June—which was supposed to be purely about discovery and adventure on a personal level, is now coupled with an exhibition of works in Kyoto, at TWELVE gallery for a duration of 10 days…
Old habits die hard. Separating opus from otium, that will be for another time!
Because really, it’s still a “CRAZY THING!” as the young people say; it’s not every day you get the chance to unpack your scribbles on the other side of the planet!!
(And thanks to Thomas Perrodin for putting me in touch with Maro).
Seriously. As a good Westerner, I had the vague idea—originally—of preparing a body of work with Japanese tones… A way to naively drive home the point of cultural reappropriation, and to retranslate with the eyes and language of the white man what the other simply lives and legitimately expresses for centuries.
After reflection, I opted for the idea of bringing over there pieces of my daily life from here—a timid attempt at Ju-jitsu—with all the artistic imagination generated by my native geographical coordinates.
In short: from May 30 to June 7:
► “SIX-EYES” exhibition of my six-eyed beings
@ TWELVE – Kyoto, Japan
And for the occasion, a series of postcards in the local format, to leave on site, in order to contaminate even the mail. There.
